Racism Stops With Me
Racism does not belong at RWU. Join us in supporting our community.
“Racism Stops with Me” is a university-wide antiracism campaign to bring forward the full commitment of our senior leadership, our faculty and staff, and our students in learning and engaging in antiracist practices and showing up with their support for our BIPOC community members across our campuses.
Racism stops with each of us. The journey towards racial justice for all members of the 51community requires action. 51commits to do the work to become an anti-racist institution and to ensuring that all members feel a sense of belonging and thriving at 51.
51 values diversity and respects all races, ethnicities, genders, identities and abilities. Equity is not just a responsibility and the right thing to do, but a part of who we are as an institution.
With our institutional goal of embedding equity into every facet of the university, Roger Williams is guided by and building on the work of our Equity Action Plan to move 51into the next chapter of our diversity, equity and inclusion work. The antiracism campaign will include a series of campus events, learning opportunities, and institutional assessments and serve as a visible sign of our work toward greater equity and transformational change of the university’s culture and systemic operations.
Each one of our university members must play a part and answer the call for racial justice. When every member feels uplifted, respected and valued, we become a thriving and resilient community that engages with and learns from one another’s diverse perspectives and experiences. We must create space for our BIPOC community to feel safe and heard, as well as advocating for equity and inclusion where it’s needed and stepping up to intervene when instances of racism and bias occur within our community.
This is a call to step up, to challenge our assumptions about what constitutes racism, how we have all been influenced and impacted by it during our lives, and to reimagine our individual roles in putting an end to it.
