Foundation to Promote Scholarship and Teaching
RWU's Foundation to Promote Scholarship and Teaching provides funding and course releases to full-time faculty members to encourage and support a wide variety of scholarly activities. Foundation applications are accepted at the start of each spring semester for the following academic year. Faculty will receive an email with application instructions prior to the end of the fall semester.
Sabbatical Proposals
Faculty must submit a Sabbatical Application/Proposal by September 15 in order to be considered for a sabbatical the following academic year. Faculty will receive an email with application instructions prior to September 15. RWU's sabbatical leave policy, eligibility, process, and proposal requirements can be found in the current RWU/RWUFA collective bargaining agreement.
Grant Opportunities
NSF Experiential Learning for Emerging and Novel Technologies (ExLENT)
Key goals of the program are to (1) expand access to career-enhancing experiential learning opportunities for all individuals, including adult learners interested in re-skilling and/or upskilling (e.g., those who face or who have faced significant barriers to accessing a formal STEM education); (2) promote cross-sector partnerships between organizations in emerging technology fields and those with expertise in workforce development; and (3) develop a workforce aligned with regional economies based on emerging technologies across the Nation, in alignment with the mission of the TIP Directorate.

NIH - Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) for Undergraduate-Focused Institutions
The purpose of this Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) for Undergraduate-Focused Institutions is to support small scale research grants at institutions that do not receive substantial funding from the NIH, with an emphasis on providing biomedical research experiences primarily for undergraduate students, and enhancing the research environment at applicant institutions.
Applications are due Feb 25, 2025; June 25, 2025; and October 25, 2025.
US DOD Installation Resilience
The Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation’s Installation Resilience program enables states and communities to partner with their local installations and the Military Departments to respond, as one community, to either the encroachment of a civilian community or threats to installation resilience that are likely to impair the continued operational utility of the military installation. Installation resilience factors include extreme natural events, water supply, flooding, land use/development, severe weather, military operational impacts, land degradation, infrastructure, species * habitat concerns, and energy.
National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowships
The purpose of this program is to support individual scholars pursuing projects that embody exceptional humanistic research, rigorous analysis, and clear writing. Fellowships provide recipients with time to conduct research or produce books, monographs, peer-reviewed articles, e-books, digital materials, translations with annotations or a critical apparatus, or critical editions resulting from previous research.

Rhode Island State Council on the Arts
Through grantmaking, programming, convening, policy-building, and education, the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts ensures that arts and culture will play an ever more significant part in the wellbeing and experience of all Rhode Island residents. RISCA has a variety of small grant programs.
Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program – Greece and Türkiye
Building Bridges Across the Aegean: Cultural Heritage and Sustainability Seminar in Greece and Türkiye.
Four Weeks, June – July 2025 (exact dates to be determined).
This Seminar will provide a holistic understanding of the cultural, environmental, and tourism landscapes of Greece and Türkiye. Participants will return to their educational communities with a richer perspective, enabling them to develop curriculum projects and promote sustainability, cultural heritage, and sustainable tourism education more effectively. Educators will gain a deeper understanding of the history and culture of both countries and be better equipped to integrate diverse practices into their teaching and research, contributing to a more sustainable and culturally aware future.
Fulbright US Scholar Program
This program is good for those planning a sabbatical in AY27. The Fulbright US Scholar Program selects talented and accomplished faculty, administrators, artists, and other established professionals for awards around the globe. These Fulbrighters advance the state of knowledge in their fields and return home with meaningful connections, enhanced skills, and fresh international perspectives.
