Privacy Statement

General Statement

The 51ÂÜÀò libraries ensure the privacy for our patrons in their use of library materials and the library web site in accordance to University policy and Rhode Island Law (). The libraries will only collect and maintain information necessary for the continued operations of the library.

No information will be shared with third parties except pursuant to such process, orders, or subpoenas as may be authorized under the authority of, and pursuant to, federal, state or local law relating to civil, criminal, or administrative discovery procedures or investigatory powers. In the event of a subpoena or other court order, the individual will be notified of the request unless the court order or laws prevents such action (e.g US PATRIOT ACT of 2001 [Public Law No: 107-56]).

Information Collected

The library collects and maintains the confidentiality of the following information:

  • Name
  • Home address and local address (if different)
  • Telephone Number(s)
  • E-mail address
  • University Status (Undergraduate, Graduate, etc.)

The library electronically receives the information used to create patron records for the university community via an ERP software system. Patron information for special borrowers is provided directly to the Access Services staff by the borrower.

The library cannot always guarantee the accuracy of the information contained in the patron database. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the patron to ensure that all information in the database relating to their record is accurate and up to date.

Web Site

The Library web site links to external sites including licensed databases. 51ÂÜÀò is not responsible for the privacy practices, security, or content of these external sites. Many of these sites have their own privacy statements that can be reviewed by all patrons.
